Separating fact from fiction
Okay, I’ll admit the line is quite blurry. But there’s no doubt that life experiences from the author of Gossip Girl, Cecily von Ziegesar, influenced the series. And that’s what makes it fun.
No one will say for sure what elite Manhattan prep school is the real setting for Gossip Girl, but you can guess that Ms. von Ziegesar’s stay at the Nightingale Bamford School in New York might have something to do with it… NBS is an all-girls private school founded in 1920. Alums, in addition to Ms. von Ziegesar, include ex-Seinfeld girlfriend Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss and actress Sarah Thompson, formerly of the now defunct WB’s 7th Heaven and Angel.
The school boasts an impressive list of academic achievements, placing grads at many of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country. According to their web site, the largest number of Nightingale graduates have enrolled at the following colleges and universities within the past five years: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Emory, Georgetown, Harvard, Oberlin, Penn, Syracuse, and Wisconsin.
Sounds like somewhere that Serena would have gone…
