Slang that spans generations

Okay, I was slightly horrified to hear my friends referring to Dan’s father (played by hottie Matthew Settle) as a DILF. For those of you who don’t know, DILF is an acronym for “Dad I’d like to f***.” Yeah, nice, huh?  I refused to include it in our list of quotes, though I did go with “The Dad’s way hotter than Jim Walsh” reference (those of you clearly living in a cave, that refers to Brenda and Brandon’s dad on Beverly Hills 90210).

Yes, my friends thought he was hot.  And Googled him during the show to find out the skinny - my friends were convinced that they remembered him from somewhere (his list of credits finally hit - he was the gay boyfriend on ER).  Like me, he was born in North Carolina (though on the west side in Hickory, I’m from the coast).  So normal enough except that he’s playing the father of high school kids and is a few days younger than my older brother (shudder).  But I digress.

I thought the DILF reference was kind of tasteless.  It is, apparently, a reference derived from MILF - heard in “American Pie” (figures).

But I seem to be one of the few people in America that wasn’t aware of the term.  ABC News ran a piece following up on the premiere and a group of Nightingale students referred to Matthew Settle as a DILF…

So, I’m out of the loop when it comes to inappropriate slang (and somehow, I’m okay with that).  Fortunately, I have my friends to keep me in the know.

All of that said, what do think about Matthew Settle?  Who else is hot on the show?

I’m obsessed with this guy, I think he is so hot!and a really good actor!specially in ER, Gossip Girl and Band of brothers.
I didn’t get if you like him or not…why don’t you like that your friends call him a dilf??

    Oh, I’m totally into him.

I just don’t like the “milf” or “dilf” labels. I think there are better ways of expressing that you think someone is hot.

I’m just really sorry he isn’t known enough, he is way hotter than Tom Cruise and Brad pitt or those guys, just doesn’t get much credit
